Aim:
To better understand the theory behind carrying out qualitative research with young people and gain practical tips for doing so successfully.
Course structure:
A one-day open course supplemented by detailed course notes to take away.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the training course participants will:
- Better understand the theory behind carrying out qualitative research
- Gain an understanding of the youth-led approach to research
- Understand what is different about conducting focus groups and interviews with young people, including ethical dilemmas and challenges of working with disadvantaged young research participants
- Better understand the barriers young people face as research participants
- Be able to get the right information from young research participants
- Have a better understanding of how to analyse qualitative data, including through thematic analysis
- Be able to conduct robust qualitative research efficiently
