Exploring Early intervention Psychosis

Aim:

To develop an understanding of how and when young people may present with symptoms of Psychosis, to recognise the importance of Early Intervention Psychosis (EIP), understand how EIP services work and how counsellors can refer and collaborate with them to provide support to young people at this crucial stage of intervention.

 

Course Structure:
This is a one day workshop using interactive training methods, including trainer input, small group discussions, experiential work and the use of a workbook containing background information, frameworks, exercises and action planning tools.

Participants will be encouraged to do some pre-course reading. Those wishing to take forward credits from the course will complete a post workshop written assignment.

 

Topics covered:

1. Defining Psychosis and its stages

2. Prevalence and causes of psychosis amongst young people

3. Recognising symptoms of psychosis

4. Understanding the effects of Psychosis on the lives of young people

5. Stages of Psychosis and how young people may present with symptoms

6. Recognising why early intervention is crucial

7. Brief overview of how Early Intervention services work

8. Reflection on how counselling services can build in assessment support and referral into Early Intervention services, including YIAC models of collaborative working

 

Trainer:
Carolyn Mumby has over twenty years experience within the field of youth work, counselling, project development, project management and training. She is a qualified youth and community worker, counsellor, leadership coach, and trainer and an experienced casework supervisor and consultant
