Welfare Benefits 2 - Beyond the Basics

Suitable for:
Established welfare benefits workers wishing to build upon skills acquired on the basic Youth Access benefits course (or similar)
Aim:
To improve the skills of more experienced welfare benefits advisers (client group: young people under 18, and all those in non -advanced education)
Course structure:
A one day knowledge based course with detailed hand-outs to take away
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the course, participants will have:
- Developed confidence as an advocate/negotiator with the relevant benefit authorities
- Ensured that IS/IBJSA/HB entitlements are effectively maximised for those under 18, including passporting interactions with other benefits
- Identified possibilities and solutions to problems created by the tax credit system, as it affects young people
- Understood how to prepare a sample, basic, appeal submission to the Tribunal Service
