Assignment information sent to participants
Once the University of East London has sent us a confirmation email that states you have been sent your student number and access to UEL resources you are ready to start your assignment. Youth Access’ Training Administrator will send your assignment details, the support available and information about what happens next. (Reminder – you were sent the course reading list prior to your attendance at the workshop, a copy of that list can be found in your course handbook.)
Your assignment details will include:
- Assignment title
- Diagram summarising the assignment and marking process
- A group participant email date providing assignment support and information about the process
- A midday completion deadline for submitting your assignment via email to assignments@youthaccess.org.uk. The date set is based on 6 weeks to complete an assignment for a 1 day course, 12 weeks for a 2 day course based on you allocating yourself approximately 1 day per week to complete your assignment.
- You must submit your assignment on the agreed date and by the agreed time, attaching the assignment cover sheet. A copy can be downloaded here. You will automatically be sent an email receipt confirming the date and time your assignment was received at Youth Access
- Assignments arriving after the completion date receive a fail mark
- You may be considered for resubmission at a later date. This will need to be agreed with Youth Access. Late submissions that are resubmitted will only receive a UEL pass mark at 50% (see the UEL Extremity Policy).
Assignment marking process
Your assignment will be marked by:
- Course trainer - first marker
- Youth Access trainer - second marker
- External examiner selected by the UEL
- Your assignment will be marked according to how well you demonstrate your learning in relation to the overall course aim and learning objectives in the areas identified below (more detail after attending the course on each of the areas will be provided in the assignment email sent by the Training Administrator)
Understanding the use of related skills
Skills practice evaluation
Structure of the assignment
Use of evidence
Critical theoretical evaluation
Use of language and Harvard referencing
Met word limit requirement (UEL allow 10% on either side of this amount)
Plagiarism: assignments are randomly selected and run through a UEL plagiarism programme
- Once this process has been completed you will receive email feedback from the first marker (which contains combined feedback from both markers) and a provisional mark. The provisional mark is subject to the final UEL Field Board decision; the mark can only be adjusted by 10% on either side and is applied to all participants who completed the same assignment. The 10% adjustment is only applied where the Board agree the assignments overall have been marked at a level above or below those of participants on equivalent level courses.
- UEL Field Boards only meet 3 times per year:
Semester A (usually early February)
Semester B (usually mid June)
Re-sits and resubmissions (September board)
Please note: assignments have to be marked by both markers, validated by the external examiner and submitted with all the above processes completed to UEL at least 4 weeks before the Field Board meet.
Participants who do not meet the required pass rate and want to resubmit
- Participants can resubmit assignments:
- The re-sit assignment will be similar, yet different from the original assignment and has to be approved by the UEL external examiner
- Any additional support offered by the first marker, the course trainer, must be appropriate and fair to not advantage the participant over previous course participants
- Deadlines for resubmission of an assignment are agreed with the workshop trainer
- Marks for resubmitted assignments are capped at the pass level; for Post Grad Courses this is 50%
- The capped mark does not need to go to the UEL External Examiner, but goes directly via UEL to the Re- sit Field Board
- Resubmission Field Boards for assignments taken in semesters 1 and 2 go to the September Board each year, assignments taken in Semester 3 will be resubmitted at the next appropriate board date, agreed with UEL.
UEL Masters level certificate with credits
- The UEL Field Board approves the course mark – these boards meet approximately three times a year.
- Once your mark has been approved by the Board, UEL arrange for you to be issued with your M level pass certificate and the number of credits gained for the course.
