Event Type: Training Dates / Venue: 8th October, Youth Access - London The assessment and management of risk and of harm to self or others is a shared responsibility between the counsellor, supervisor, manager and the agency. This course offers the opportunity to share good practice within the group and explores practical principles and a framework to support the assessment and management of risk within the counselling assessment and the organisational context.
Course structure
A one day course using trainer input, exercises in small groups and a training pack/work-book, which can be used both during and after the workshop to share and implement learning in the work place

- Assessing risk and harm with the young person
- Making objective decisions
- Using the evidence internal and external
- Principles and best practice
- Framework and tools to assess and manage risk
- Partnership working and referrals
Learning outcomes
- An understanding of the importance of the counselling relationship in the assessment and management of risk, involving the young person and making objective decisions.
- An understanding of good practice including the YA counselling assessment standard
- Understanding the evidence, principles and frameworks that support good practise in risk assessment and management
- How to use the framework, tools and evidence
- Identifying partners for consultancy and referral
- Learning that can be shared within the workshop and with colleagues
- Access to resources to support YIACS in preparation for commissioning their services
