Counselling Courses Information Sheet
The Youth Access accredited counselling programme comprises seventeen 1, 2 and six day counselling courses. Click here to read more about why Youth Access is collaborating with the University of East London to accredit our counselling courses.
Suitable for:
Diploma level Trained Counsellors
Participants seeking a qualification and credits for courses attended at Youth Access will be able to:
- gain credits at Masters level (M level)
- on successful completion gain 5 credits for a 1 day course or 10 credits for a 2 day course at M level
- be awarded an Associate Certificate from UEL bearing the name of the course and the number of credits gained at M level (for each course)
- accumulate 120 credits on the YA counselling course programme and apply to APCL in order to progress onto the final dissertation module of a relevant Masters degree programme at UEL (or equivalent)
- enrol as a student at UEL.

Requirements for participants seeking to gain credits
Participants will be expected to:
- undertake recommended course reading; contribute to discussions in the workshop; reflect on their learning from counselling young people and in clinical supervision.
- submit a written assignment to illustrate learning (not more than 833 words per 5 credit course and 1667 per 10 credit course).
Requirements for participants who do NOT wish to gain credits
Participants will:
- be expected to do some pre-course reading, to contribute to discussions in the workshop, and to consider how to use their learning in their work place setting
- neither be able to claim or evidence that the YA Counselling course they attended is a Master’s level course or be awarded credits or an award certificate
- receive a certificate from Youth Access which provides evidence of attendance and continuous professional development.
Course fees
Youth Access strives to keep course prices low for member agencies, individuals and non-members, to ensure accessibility and affordability.
Members taking non-credited counselling courses will pay £65 per day, members taking accredited courses will pay £75 per day. Course fees for non Youth Access members will be £100 (voluntary sector or individual), or £150 (statutory sector).
Youth Access Counselling Programme Course Areas and Titles
Youth Access has divided its training programme into three headed course areas, all focussed on working with young people:
- Counselling young people
- Counselling and mental health
- Management issues and clinical supervision
Trained counsellors new to working with young people are recommended to take the courses in each of the headed areas before moving onto the next area, outlined here.
