Aim
To develop a comprehensive understanding of the purposes of counselling assessment and its good practice, including the principles and tools of risk assessment, and to introduce or improve comprehensive young person centred assessment process and systems within young people’s counselling services.
Course Structure:
This is a two day training course using interactive training methods, including trainer input, small group discussions, experiential work and the use of a workbook containing background information, frameworks, exercises and action planning tools.
Participants will be encouraged to do some pre-course reading. Those wishing to take forward credits from the course will demonstrate critical evaluation and effective communication of relevant theory and skills through presentation in written form of a work-based assignment.
Topics covered include:
- Good Practice Standards and Guidelines relating to Counselling Assessment
- Assessing risk and resilience with young people
- Best Practice in assessing and managing Risk
- Overview and details of specialist assessments for specific issues (Self-harm, Suicide, potential violence, youth offending, substance misuse, Eating Disorders, Safeguarding, Psychosis)
- Review and Evaluation
- Referral
- Working with stakeholders to introduce or improve counselling and risk assessment in your organisation
Trainer:
Carolyn Mumby has over twenty years experience within the field of youth work, counselling, project development, project management and training. She is a qualified youth and community worker, counsellor, leadership coach, and trainer and an experienced casework supervisor and consultant
