Aims:
To develop participant knowledge and an understanding of the range of counselling outcome tools, their purpose, benefits and appropriate use with young people.
To explore the use of outcome data in: developing an evidence base; improving practitioner and agency practice; and whole organisational learning.
Course Structure:
This one day training course uses interactive training methods, including trainer input, small group discussions, experiential work and the use of a workbook containing background information, frameworks, exercises and action planning tools.
Participants will be encouraged to do some pre-course reading. Those wishing to gain credits from the course will complete a post workshop case study showing how they selected, introduced, used, reviewed and evaluated a creative approach with a young person.
Topics covered:
- Introduction to the different types and purpose of counselling outcome tools
- The use of different tools and their appropriateness for example: with different presenting problems and mental health illnesses, age ranges, different cultural perceptions and understanding.
- Consent, confidentiality, information sharing, feedback to young people and storage of data.
- The use of different outcome tools and their findings, in the context of, current policy, research, commissioning, NOS and other quality standards.
- Developing an evidence base and using the results to inform and ensure best practice.
- Using the results in review and monitoring processes with young people, practitioners, supervisors, managers and other key stakeholders.
Trainer:
Catherine has over 25 years experience of working in front-line services for young people with complex needs, Community Outreach, Supported Needs Housing and Youth Information, Advice and Counselling Services. She currently works for Youth Access as Development Manager Youth Counselling, and is a qualified researcher, counsellor, manager, and author of a number of policy and research publications on counselling and mental health.
