Introduction to using coaching skills with young people

Aim:
Coaching enables young people to explore their choices and realise their potential. This training introduces the role of the coach, change models and strategies and provides opportunities to practice skills.
Course Structure:
This one-day introductory course uses interactive training methods, including trainer input, small group discussions, and the use of a workbook containing background information, frameworks, exercises and an action planning tool. The workbook is designed to be used both during the training and afterwards to enable effective implementation in the work place.
Training Outcomes:
By the end of the training day participants will have:
- A definition of coaching and an understanding of its key purposes and potential value in enabling young people to explore choices and realise their potential.
- Recognised the role of the coach and the values and principles which underpin good practice in coaching
- Explored how to introduce and agree a basic coaching contract with a young person, and considered various models of change
- Practiced basic coaching skills
- Identified types and levels of support for themselves as practitioners in order to initiate and sustain the ethical use of coaching skills within their work with young people.
Trainer:
Carolyn Mumby has over twenty years experience within the field of youth work, counselling, project development, project management and training. She is a qualified youth and community worker, counsellor, and trainer, has undertaken training in coaching, and is an experienced casework supervisor and consultant
