Event Type: Training Dates / Venue: 21st October - Youth Access, London Appropriate for: all practitioners who work with young people
Course Structure: The developmental and maturational stage called 'adolescence' makes great demands on young people, who are called upon by their families/carers and society at large to manage the tasks of working through the enormous upheavals in their inner and outer worlds. This one-day workshop aims to investigate the challenges to young people's mental and emotional health during adolescence to increase our ability to tailor our interventions most appropriately to their individual developmental needs and concerns. A comprehensive handbook of learning materials will be provided. This is also an opportunity to share ideas, good practice and identify support needs.
Learning outcomes: By the end of the programme participants will have:
- Identified the factors in young people's lives which effect their mental health and developing potential
- Explored concepts of mental health and mental ill health in adolescence
- Examined advancements in medical research which inform our understanding of mental health and brain development in adolescence
- Considered approaches and interventions that contribute towards young people's confidence, resilience and resourcefulness in strengthening their mental health and emotional wellbeing
- Participated in experiential learning activities
- Shared ideas, good practice and identified support needs
