Aim
To develop participants’ knowledge, understanding and competence in dealing with safeguarding and child protection issues and concerns, particularly when working with young people.
Course Structure:
This is a one day training course using interactive training methods, including trainer input, small group discussions, case study examples and the use of a workbook containing background information. Participants will be encouraged to do some pre-course reading. Those wishing to take forward credits from the course will submit a written case study assignment after the workshop.
Topics covered:
- Current definitions, including the Governments definitions, of child abuse and neglect, safeguarding and child protection.
- Recognising the signs and symptoms of child abuse and neglect
- The impact child abuse and neglect has on young people’s physical/emotional/mental health
- Legal framework, including national, local and international guidance and legislation
- Roles and responsibilities of statutory and non-statutory agencies to safeguard and respond to child protection concerns
- Information sharing, confidentiality, consent and the Gillick competence
Trainer:
Amandeep has over 10 years experience of working with young people. Previously, she worked as a Safeguarding Development Officer offering information, advice and training on safeguarding and child protection issues to the voluntary youth sector. She is currently working for Youth Access as Counselling Services Development Officer.
