Working Creatively in Counselling with Young People

Aim:
To explore how working creatively with young people in counselling can increase the ability to identify and work with painful and conflicting emotions, unspoken problems and confusing questions of identity in order to increase discussion, enhance the possibilities for insight and change, and tap young people’s natural creative potential to problem solve and restore and repair the self.

Course Structure:
This one day experiential workshop will include trainer input, small group discussions, and opportunities to practice using creative interventions.

The training will be supported by the use of a workbook.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the workshop practitioners will have:

• Explored their own experiences of adolescence through creative expression, identifying the ways in which this could resource their counselling relationships with young people
• Examined the developmental needs of young people, and identified enabling creative responses to these needs
• Practised using creative approaches
• Had opportunities to share ideas, good practice and issues for supervision

Trainer:
Carolyn Mumby has over twenty years experience within the field of youth work, counselling, project development, project management and training. She is a qualified youth and community worker, counsellor, and trainer and an experienced casework supervisor and consultant
