Aims:
- To enable participants to explore their own experiences of adolescence through creative expression and bring greater awareness into their counselling relationships with young people
- Introduce diverse creative approaches, which can be used to engage and support a wide range of different young people in the counselling process
- Practice using creative approaches
- Develop ideas and action plans to take creative approaches back into the workplace
- Identify ways of reviewing and evaluating creative counselling approaches with young people
Course Structure:
This one day training course uses interactive training methods, including trainer input, small group discussions, experiential work and the use of a workbook containing background information, frameworks, exercises and action planning tools.
Participants will be encouraged to do some pre-course reading. Those wishing to take forward credits from the course will complete a post workshop case study showing how they selected, introduced, used, reviewed and evaluated a creative approach with a young person.
Topics covered:
- The purpose and benefits of using creative approaches with young people
- Four approaches will be looked at in some depth: The Emotional Pendulum, Visualisation, Art Work, Awareness Cards.
- The following creative approaches will be highlighted, with more detailed information to take away: Gestalt 2 chair work, using objects and figures, writing, dreams, ritual, relaxation, metaphor, and mindfulness.
Trainer:
Carolyn Mumby has over twenty years experience within the field of youth work, counselling, project development, project management and training. She is a qualified youth and community worker, counsellor, leadership coach, and trainer and an experienced casework supervisor and consultant
