A One-Day Conference
Young People Now
20 February 2007, The Centennial Centre, Birmingham
Following on from the success of Young People Now's Emotional Health conference in 2006, we return to deliver a holistic understanding of the mental health and emotional wellbeing of young adults. This conference will provide you with the knowledge and inspiration required to effectively tackle the emerging issues shaping current mental health provision available to adolescents.
Key topics and focus points for discussion include:
· Inter-Agency Working − Discussing the need for youth, health and social services to work together to provide holistic mental health provision
· Transition (16-19) − How should services be structured to best support this vulnerable age group?
· Engaging Hard-To-Reach Groups − Designing attractive mental health services that young people are willing to access
· Role of Schools − To what extent can acute provision be located in schools? What additional skills and support will staff require?
· Skills & Support − Examining the most up-to-date methods of training your staff to equip them with the skills necessary to confidently identify and treat mental health issues at an early stage.
'The period of late adolescence going into young adulthood, is of crucial developmental importance. Currently, services do not respond well to these needs and adult mental health services are not appropriate for those young people experiencing mental health problems for the first time.'
