Replacing the EMA

28 June, 2011

Some groups of young people will continue to be eligible for financial support to help them stay on in education at 16-19 years. This includes

children in care, care leavers, those on income support (including teenage parents) and those in receipt of both Employment Support Allowance and Disability Living Allowance). Young people in these groups may be able to receive £1200 each year from the new 16-19 Bursary Fund

The new scheme will be administered by schools, colleges and training providers and the DfE (and the Young People's Learning Agency) has started to notify these bodies about their allocation of the total £180m available. Please click here to download a copy of a new leaflet for young people, which will explain the new scheme.
