Youth Access submits evidence to Select Committee
16 December, 2010
Youth Access has made a detailed submission of evidence to the House of Commons Education Select Committee inquiry into services for young people.
The inquiry will consider both universal services - for instance youth clubs, or sporting, musical and cultural activites - and targeted services for vulnerable groups, though it will not examine formal careers guidance services, including those provided by Connexions.
Our submission may not be published without permission of the committee, but in summary we have argued for:
- Focussing scarce resources on services that are not only proven to be accessible and to meet a broad range of young people's needs but also provide demonstrably good outcomes.
- Universal access to targeted services.
- Holistic provision.
- An end to the age cut-off at 18.
We hope that after taking our evidence, the MP's will be in no doubt that YIACS are 'a proven intervention model' which benefit individual young people and society as a whole.
We will bring you more news as the inquiry progresses.
