This brief guide to Youth Access's Quality Standards will be helpful to statutory bodies, charitable trusts and other funders who want to obtain best practice in the youth information, advice, counselling and support services which they are seeking to fund. Whilst the guide is primarily directed at funders, it will also be of relevance to policy-makers and commissioners. It does not replace the need for existing providers of these services to obtain the full manual.

Building User Involvement

This guide is aimed at helping young people’s information, advice, counselling and support services explore user involvement. It focuses on user involvement as a Continuum from communication and consultation, through to more active participation in delivering and managing services. It draws on the experiences of young people themselves and colleagues from within the field in order to outline the potential benefits and pitfalls of various types of involvement. Finally, it describes ways of ensuring that the involvement of young people is more that a passing fad, but something that is consistent and sustainable.

Youthstat

This guide is a useful starting point for anyone wishing to get involved in setting up a youth information, advice and counselling service. It attempts to raise many of the issues associated with this specialist form of provision, such as steering groups, gathering evidence of need, staffing, information systems and evaluation.
