Youth Access is seeking a new Chair and other Trustees

We are looking for up to four exceptional individuals to join the Board from April 2019:

  • a new Chair of the Board
  • a trustee with financial expertise to act as Treasurer or finance lead
  • a trustee drawn from our membership with expertise in youth advice and counselling services or with experience of accessing YIACS in the last 5 years
  • a trustee who can strengthen the Board’s range of skills and expertise in a key area, such as property, law, HR, fundraising or youth participation

We are currently at an exciting point in our evolution, having undergone a period of significant and important change for the organisation under our dynamic Chief Executive, James Kenrick. We have recently adopted a new strategic plan that is focussed on empowering young people and members to lead radical social change that advances young people’s rights and promotes the development of young person-centred mental health and wellbeing services. We are building a movement of organisations and individuals who share our vision of a society in which all young people have somewhere to turn to, and someone to talk to, wherever and whenever they are in need.

With a strong reputation for the quality of our work, a sound financial base and a highly skilled and committed staff team, we are well-placed to make progress towards achieving our ambitions. Our trustees have a key role to play in providing continuous challenge over whether there may be more effective and strategic ways to achieve our mission.


We are actively seeking candidates who can bring a range of different experiences and viewpoints to our Board and encourage people from a diverse range of backgrounds and ages to apply. Crucially, all new trustees will need to have a deep-rooted passion for improving young people’s access to the advice, counselling and mental health support they need. Young people who are interested in becoming a trustee would be given additional support including access to training to undertake the role and should therefore consider applying even if they don’t fully meet the person specification.
