How can we look after ourselves?

Online counselling is just as time intensive as face-to-face, and more exhausting. Therapists experience unique pressures associated with remote working - including feelings of isolation and pressure to do as much as possibleAs such, it’s essential to make sure that you also have the support you need to carry out your work. Some things to consider are:

  • How will you keep in touch with, and get support from your colleagues and managers on a regular basis?
  • What does your caseload look like in terms of the severity of issues, mental health and risk concerns among the young people you are supporting?
  • Where can you go to when you need to talk through challenges you’re facing in your sessions?
  • Are you able to schedule your day to include regular screen-free breaks and energisers?
