Civil legal problems

Briefing paper
Equity, Legal aid & support, Research
30 Nov 2011

Research into the experience of, and relationship between, young people, social exclusion and crime.

This briefing paper sets out findings from the 2010 wave of the Civil and Social Justice Panel Survey (CSJPS), alongside supplementary findings from the earlier (but larger) 2006-9 Civil and Social Justice Survey (CSJS).

The findings:

  • Reveal the experience of civil legal problems faced by young people in England and Wales, and place this experience in a broader context.
  • Illustrate clear links between civil legal problems, social exclusion and crime.
