The Charity Commission’s guidance for charities that engage in campaigning and political activity is the place to start when considering your governance arrangements.
If you are doing any General Election campaigning, it is worth reading this 2019 blog, alongside the Charity Commission guidance, to ensure you are compliant with the Lobbying Act.
The Charity Commission have also written this helpful factsheet for MPs which provides them with an oversight of the rules governing charity campaigning:
Advice from the sector
The sector provides a range of advice to help charities navigate campaigning and political activity. NCVO’s resources on their website are particularly useful.

New Philanthropy Capital hosted a range of roundtables on charity campaigning in 2018. Whilst they are a little old, they provide a useful summary of key issues and provide case studies of how different charities have responded.
The Shelia McKechnie Foundation has an interest in campaigning and legal challenges as a vehicle for improving public policy. There are lots of useful resources on their website and they recently produced this guide for the upcoming 2024 General Election:
