Overview
Young campaigners from across the UK have united to call for a transformational change to the mental health system so that it puts young people’s needs and rights at the centre. Supported by charities in each nation of the UK, almost 2,000 young people, who are lived experience experts, have come together to outline their vision for what community-based mental health services should look like.
The partnership, which is coordinated by Youth Access, is made up of the following organisations:
- Scottish Youth Parliament
- SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health)
- Promo Cymru
- Hafal (part of Adferiad Recovery)
- National Children’s Bureau Northern Ireland
- Royal College of Psychiatrists
- NHS Clinical Commissioners Mental Health Network
- The Centre for Youth Impact (learning partner)
The programme is set out across five different stages – one stage per year:
- Support young people to set the agenda
- Empower young people to lead change
- Co-produce solutions
- Develop the quality of services
- Capacity-building across Youth Access’ network
Impact so far
All of the activities delivered within this programme directly link with Youth Access’ overall capacity-building work; specifically, advocating for the YIACS model and much-needed investment in these community-based services, as brought to life through our #FundTheHubs.
